WJTV Stands Up For Storm Coverage

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WJTV anchor Melanie Christopher has put station haters in their place.

On Sunday April 2, severe storms passed through the Central Mississippi area. The Nexstar-owned station decided to break into the live broadcast of the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Apparently viewers didn’t like that.

So on Monday, April 3 the Jackson, Mississippi station responded with a no-nonsense Facebook video on the station’s page.

“For those still angry at us for interrupting the broadcast we ask that you keep the following in mind, you can watch another 20 or 30 of these specials.  After last night, at least three people will never watch TV again,” Christopher said in the video.

The video, which lasted about three minutes, addressed the backlash the station received and its focus on providing information for viewers.

“We can’t control the timing of the storms. We can promise whenever they show up you can find us right here to walk you through it.”
