Whitney Ray Returns to WEHT as Main Anchor

By Andrew Gauthier

Whitney Ray, who spent three years as a morning anchor and reporter at WEHT before being cut loose last year, has been tapped as the Evansville ABC-affiliate’s new evening anchor.

A native of Southern Indiana, Ray will co-anchor WEHT’s 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Brad Byrd, and she’ll also helm the 6:30 p.m. newscast produced for WTVW.

“We are delighted to welcome Whitney Ray back to WEHT as she brings the right skill set, community knowledge and commitment to serve as a successful co-anchor in the market,” WEHT vice president and general manager Arika Zink said, announcing the appointment.

The chance to return to WEHT carries a special significance for Ray since her mom used to work at the station as a reporter.

“I can remember watching my mother as a reporter for WEHT in the 80’s.  And I knew then that I wanted to be a part of that one day,” Ray said.  “I am thrilled to working with Arika, Brad and the Eyewitness News team as we continue to serve this terrific community that I call home.”
