The two also rans in the Charlotte market’s battle for TV viewers are showing signs of life after this last sweeps period.
The Charlotte Observer reports Fox-owned WJZY is up in total viewers for every newscast in May while longtime leader WSOC lost viewership in every newscast. The Fox-owned station is up 41 percent at 6 a.m., 53 percent at Noon, 40 percent at 6 p.m. and 38 percent at 10 p.m.
TEGNA’s NBC affiliate WCNC, which the Observer describes as “long the city’s third place news operation,” saw a 24 percent increase at 11 p.m., a 29 percent jump at 6 p.m., a 53 percent increase at Noon and and a 12 percent increase at 6 a.m.
Market leaders CBS affiliate WBTV and ABC affiliate WSOC are still leading by large margins, but the end of WSOC’s ratings dominance last sweeps with WBTV’s ratings wins show the Charlotte market may be seeing a shift in viewer loyalties.
