As a New York City resident who had the good fortune to not lose power during Hurricane Sandy, I’ve watched more local news in the last week than I probably have in my entire life. WCBS and WNBC are doing a great job going overtime during daytime hours covering the storm’s aftermath. That said, there are some interesting news about the news observations. Like this morning on WCBS. A reporter, as many are, is stationed outside a New Jersey gas stations where customers are waiting hours to fill up. During a live interview, a man from Lodi, NJ asked “Am I live?” He was. Then he looked at the mic flag and said “What is this channel?” “Channel 2 News,” he was told by the reporter. Earlier this year, CBS acquired Long Island TV station WLNY TV 10/55. WCBS produces a morning show and a 9pm news for the station. So now, two sides of their mic flag are marked CBS2 and the other two sides are marked TV 10/55. If you’re from New Jersey TV 10/55 is not known to most viewers. The live shot wrapped up, as the gentleman from Lodi continued to wait.
