WFLA Reporter Melanie Michael Leaving Station After 8 Years

Melanie Michael announced she is leaving Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA.

Michael announced the news on social media by saying , “Dr Seuss once said don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. Today begins my final week @WFLA & TV news. It’s been the wildest, most joyful ride ever,” she wrote on Instagram. “The people I’ve met on my journey have become family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m forever grateful.”

Michaels was off the air last year after suffering brain and spinal cord injuries while covering the home opener for the Tampa Bay Lightning. In a tweet in November, she said she was recovering slowly.

For the past 44 days, I’ve been recovering from a severe brain injury and spinal injuries,” she wrote. “I hit my head on the pavement while covering #Bolts home opener.”

Before joining WFLA in 2014, Michael worked in New Orleans, Las Vegas and Detroit.

There’s no word on where she’s headed next.
