WEHT Anchor Brad Byrd Retiring After 46 Years at Station

By Kevin Eck

WEHT anchor Brad Byrd will end of his 46-year career as the weeknight anchor at the Evansville, Indiana ABC affiliate in July.

“I’m ok but at times it’s been a heartbreaking process to see this through,” Byrd wrote on social media. “I am not retiring in the literal sense. I hope to work on new projects and provide a voice for Journalism in this next phase of my life. And yes it will give me more time to continue this love story I’ve shared with TJ for 34 years.”

Byrd joined the station in 1978 and has been honored with numerous awards, including the Edward R. Murrow award, regional Emmy awards, Indiana Associated Press awards and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. He is a member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Gold Circle and the Indiana Broadcasters Fairbanks Hall of Fame.
