WEAR Shuts Down Production After 2 Employees Test Positive for COVID-19

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WEAR, the ABC station in Pensacola, Fla., has had to cease operations at the studio after two newsroom employees tested positive for COVID-19. The station stopped producing news from the main studio on Sunday.

The station explained what will happen next to viewers on Facebook.

Today, we were informed that a second employee at our WEAR-TV Pensacola newsroom has tested positive for COVID-19. Our primary concern during this crisis remains the health and safety of our employees. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to relocate the production of WEAR-TV newscasts to its sister station, WPMI, in Mobile, Alabama through at least April 9. During this time we will produce newscasts that will bring audiences Pensacola, Mobile and national news. We also have begun a deep-clean and sanitization of the WEAR-TV newsroom to further protect the health of our employees. Further, we will continue to use social distancing and other safety precautions that have been in place since a few weeks ago

Production will be out of WPMI in Mobile, Ala., across all platforms.
