Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said in a radio interview with WTOP that police are in pursuit of the suspect who is believed to be a former employee of WDBJ. “Gov. McAuliffe seemed confident the suspect will be in custody soon, saying authorities had a picture of him, that they’ve ID’d him,” reported CNN’s Brian Todd. “The governor did not give the suspect’s name but he said that authorities believe he may, may be a disgruntled employee of that television station.”
The suspect headed North on I-81 and is in Staunton or Waynesboro near I-64, reports the News Leader. Local schools have been placed on a modified lockdown.
More: The Augusta County Sheriff’s office has identified the suspect has Vester Lee Flanagan. They are searching for a grey 2009 Mustang with VA license plate WZE-9946. Flanagan, who went by the name Bryce Williams, was a former employee of the station, who recorded a video of the shooting himself and posted it to his Facebook page. Facebook has already removed that posting. He was tweeting following the shooting as well, but Twitter has since suspended his account.
