On New Year’s Day, WCVB will launch a new evening newscast and new anchor teams.

The ABC affiliate in Boston is starting a 4:30 p.m. show which will be anchored by Maria Stephanos and Ben Simmoneau and chief meteorologist Harvey Leonard. This additional half hour will increase WCVB’s weeknight local news coverage to four hours of local and national news beginning at 4 p.m.

Also starting on Jan. 1, Doug Meehan, who currently anchors the station’s weekend morning show, will become the station’s third weekday morning anchor from 4:30-7 a.m.

He will join Antionette Antonio, Randy Price, meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon and traffic reporter Olessa Stepanova. Jennifer Eagan will replace Meehan on the weekends.

“The launch of NewsCenter 5 at 4:30, as well as moving Doug to weekday mornings and Jennifer to weekend mornings, provides NewsCenter 5 with added time and resources to continue to produce the market’s most compelling, comprehensive and enterprising newscasts,” said Bill Fine, WCVB president and general manager.

Inside Edition, which currently airs at 4:30, will move to 1:05 a.m.
