Sylvia Villarreal has been promoted to news director of KXXV in Central Texas.
She’s been with the Waco station since 2015 as an executive producer and as the assistant news director.
Villarreal is no stranger to leading news operations. She’s been in the business for 30 years and has been recognized for her work at a local and network level with Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, Emmys, Headliners and Murrow awards.
The journalist began her career as a videotape editor and eventually became a news producer. She has freelanced for CBS Newspath and worked in Dallas at KTVT.
This is her hometown market, so the move up to news director means she’ll remain close to family.
