WCSH anchor Cindy Williams is retiring in December after 32 years.
In a letter on the Portland, Maine NBC affiliate’s website, Williams said the past two years have been difficult for everyone due to Covid-19. She has also been recovering from surgeries during the time.
“Nothing like a worldwide pandemic to give us all pause,” wrote Williams, who first joined WCSH in 1989 after working in Mississippi and New Hampshire. “Add two spinal surgeries into the mix and I’ve had a lot of time to think. Covid has been a period of reassessment for many of us. The bottom line for me: it’s time for me to make a change.”
In a video she posted to Facebook, Williams shared that she wanted to travel more and spend more time with her family. She also revealed her interest in real estate; Williams has been a licensed agent for the last five years, and she will continue working as a realtor after she hangs up her broadcaster hat.
Williams’ husband, former WCSH anchor Lee Nelson, retired about a year ago.
“I work with some of the most amazing, passionate, driven, caring people I have ever known,” Williams wrote. “So lucky. And for 32 years, I’ve had the privilege of your trust, which has meant more than I can possibly say.”
