The University of Georgia is selling its TV station to Marquee Broadcasting for $2.5 million.
WUGA was owned by Media General before the university’s research foundation bought it in 2008. In 2011, it stopped operating as a commercial station, the call letters were changed from WNEG to WUGA, and it began operating as a PBS affiliate.
“We are excited about the opportunity to serve the Greenville to Atlanta community, building on the legacy of WUGA,” said Patricia Lane, president of Marquee Broadcasting. “We plan to provide quality programming for the whole family to enjoy and look forward to serving the community.”
Marquee Broadcasting owns WMDT, the ABC/CW and MeTV affiliate in Salisbury, Md.
