Two Female Meteorologists Replace Longtime Buffalo Weatherman

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WGRZ‘s weather department is making history in the market.

Earlier this month, TVSpy told you that longtime weeknight weather anchor Kevin O’Connell retired from the Tegna owned NBC affiliate in Buffalo after 25 years.

Now, viewers will see three female meteorologists, seven days a week. This is the first time any station in the market has had an all-women lineup in the evenings.

During the week Heather Waldman and Maria Genero will share 5, 5:30, 6, 10 and 11 p.m. duties. Jen Stanonis will replace Waldman on the weekends.

The last time a female meteorologist forecasted the weekday evening weather in Buffalo was in the 1960s: Doris Jones, who was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1999.
