Tony McEwing to Retire from Fox LA After 30 Years

By Kevin Eck

KTTV morning anchor Tony McEwing announced on Good Day LA that he is retiring after a 30-year career in Los Angeles.

In a note obtained by TVSpy, acting news director Pete Wilgoren told the team McEwing has been the “heartbeat of the newsroom for so many years” and a part of the fabric of the community.

“If you’ve ever heard that infectious Tony laugh, or seen that hilarious Tony side-stare, or witnessed Tony be so nurturing and caring at the LA Mission, then you KNOW what makes Tony so special,” said Wilgoren.

McEwing called the announcement “bittersweet.” He started working at the Fox owned station in 1993.

“For the better part of 30 years, I have sat here delivering the news in all of its forms and facets—the good, the bad, the ugly, the inspiring, the amusing, and the awesome,” McEwing said in his on-air announcement. “I cannot begin to tell you how honored and blessed I feel to have the career I’ve had.”

He went on to thank his current colleagues along with people who helped him out during his career.

“You should know that I don’t see my retirement as goodbye so much as hello to new adventures and experiences. Now I’m not going anywhere just yet, I’ll still be sticking around for a couple of weeks,” he said. “But I can never, ever repay you for believing in me and hanging with me all these years. I send all of you love from the very bottom of my heart and I wish God’s blessings for each and every one of you.”

His last day will be Friday February 3.
