Telemundo31 Names New VP of News

Telemundo31, Telemundo’s Central Florida property in Orlando, Fla., announced today that Miguelangel Lopez has been named the vp of news.

In this new role, Lopez will oversee the station’s multi-platform news operation. He will report to Migdalia Figueroa, the president and general manager of Telemundo31.

“Miguelangel is an outstanding manager and an experienced news leader,” said Figueroa. “I’m excited for him to join our team and look forward to seeing the new milestones he and our news staff will reach as we continue with our commitment of informing and empowering our audiences, now more than ever.”

Lopez comes to Florida from Texas, where he has been the vp of news at KTLM since 2014. There he oversaw news operations and the launch of the station’s consumer investigative unit. During his tenure, the operation received a national News Emmy, regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and First Amendment Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, among others. In addition to his local broadcast experience, Lopez has also worked for Telemundo Network in various producer roles for the network’s award-winning morning show, Un Nuevo Día.

I’m pleased to continue this news responsibility at Telemundo31 and to serve Central Florida’s Spanish-speaking audiences.”

His first day will be Jan. 25.

Lopez launched his career move than 20 years ago in Puerto Rico.
