Survey Finds Local TV Meteorologists Third Most Trusted Weather Source

TheVaneWeatherSurveyGawker released the results of a survey asking readers to say where they get their weather information.

Out of 4,873 readers who responded to the survey, when asked, “Which media outlet do you use most often to check your local forecast?” only 9 percent said they watched local news.

When asked to rate which media outlet they trusted most, responders gave the National Weather Service the high score of 8 out of 10. Local news meteorologists tied with Accuweather for third place with an average rating of 6.6 out of possible 10.

TV showed its strength in times of severe weather, though. When asked what they do immediately after hearing a tornado warning, 27 percent said they check radar, followed closely by the 26 percent who said they turned on the news.
