Sunday Night Was a Super Night for Hometown Stations

The two hometown local stations for the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers had big nights regardless of what their teams did in Super Bowl 50.

In Denver, CBS-owned KCNC pulled in the highest rating ever for a Super Bowl in that market with a 53.9 rating and 82 share for the game. NBC affiliate KUSA‘s Super Bowl in 1998 got a 50.8 while Fox affiliate KDVR‘s got a 51.6 in 1999.

In Charlotte, N.C., Raycom’s CBS affiliate WBTV said it had a record breaking night. Between 7:45 and 8 p.m. 90 percent of all adults between 25 and 54, watching TV, were watching the Super Bowl.

“That share of audience is likely the highest WBTV has had since taking the airwaves as the Carolinas’ first local television broadcaster back in 1949,” said the station. “WBTV tied Minneapolis’ WCCO for the highest A25-54 ratings nationwide for the game, and Charlotte viewers edged Denver viewers overall.”
