Steve Poitras Returns to KTVU

By Kevin Eck

KTVU has announced that Steve Poitras is coming back to the San Francisco Bay Area FOX affiliate to lead the marketing department.

Poitras left KTVU in 2003 after 15 years at the Oakland based station to be the director of marketing at KPIX, the CBS owned station across the bay. He was promoted to station manager at KPIX before moving to KTLA in 2008. Four years later he joined KFMB in San Diego as director of creative services.

Some might see this as KTVU trying to get its old mojo back after the Asiana Airlines goof-up in July.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with such a talented marketing professional again,” KTVU VP and GM Tom Raponi said in a statement. “Steve made many significant contributions to KTVU and TV36 during the time we worked together from 1996 through 2003. Steve has a passion for our stations and a special talent for creating remarkable connections with our viewers and community.”

Poitras created and produced the much talked about “Classical Gas” tribute to KTVU’s 40th anniversary in 1998. The spot won an Emmy and a Promax Gold for the station. Watch it after the jump.
