KCCI anchor Steve Karlin has announced that he will retire next year after more than three decades at the Des Moines, Iowa CBS affiliate.

Karlin joined KCCI in 1989 as a reporter and weekend weather anchor. In 2015, he joined Stacey Horst on the evening newscasts after Kevin Cooney retired. He was a morning anchor from 2011 to 2015 and anchored evenings from 1994 to 2011.

“Steve has lived out the mission of Iowa’s News Leader,” said KCCI president and general manager Brian Sather. “He has reported on the biggest moments in our community, introduced us to our neighbors, and been a trusted voice leading our coverage from the anchor desk.”

The station said he will retire on March 1, 2023.

“I have had a storybook career at KCCI. I am so appreciative of the local television news legends who came before me at KCCI,” said Karlin. “Not many people get to spend their entire career doing the job they love, at a place they love, in service to the wonderful people of their home state. I am a very lucky guy.”
