Stations Target Trend in Early Risers

If early in the day seems earlier than ever, it’s not your imagination.

Busy Americans are spending fewer of the wee hours asleep and more of them catching up on the news, fueling up on coffee, fighting traffic, working out — you name it, people are doing it before the crack of dawn.

One bit of evidence is WPXI-TV‘s 4:30 a.m. newscast, launched last week.

“This is a trend in TV stations across the country,” said news director Mike Goldrick — “Los Angeles, Dallas, Kansas City, Houston and Seattle.” More…
