St. Louis Reporter Betsey Bruce Retiring After 46 Years

By Kevin Eck

KTVI reporter Betsey Bruce is retiring from the St. Louis Fox affiliate on Friday.

Bruce started her career at KMOV (then KMOX) in 1970 as a news writer. She became an on-air reporter in 1971 and started working at KTVI in 1989 as a weekend anchor and a reporter covering government consumer stories.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Bruce’s retirement will bring an end to the longest career in the history of St. Louis TV news.

While other women had appeared on St. Louis newscasts previous to Bruce — weather reporter Dianne White, anchors Pat Fontaine and Lee Shepherd, and public-affairs show moderator Harriett Woods — Bruce is believed to be the first assigned to daily hard-news reporting.
