Derek Deis is moving from mornings to evenings for Spokane, Wash. ABC affiliate KXLY.

Deis will anchor alongside Kirstin O’Connor, chief meteorologist Kris Crocker and sports director Julian Mininsohn at 5, 6 and Nightside.

“We’re excited for Derek to join our talented evening team,” said KXLY general manager Teddie Gibbon. “With years of experience and a commitment to excellence, Derek brings a wealth of knowledge to our evening newscasts.”

He joined the station in 2009 as sports director before making the switch to morning news in 2011.

“After 12 years of waking up before the crack of dawn, I’m excited to finally be able to sleep in a bit,” said Deis. “At the same time, I’m also sad to leave Robyn, Mark and the rest of my morning news family, who I’ve become extremely close to over the years.”
