Bill Siegel has been named director of news strategy for E.W. Scripps Company.
The company said the addition was made to prepare for the merger with Journal Communications. In July, the two companies announced they’d merge, making Scripps the fifth largest TV station group with 34 stations in 24 cities, reaching 18 percent of the U.S.

Siegel is executive news director at WWL in New Orleans. Before that, he was assistant news director at WISN in Milwaukee. He’s also worked at KMOV in St. Louis, and KENS in San Antonio. He started his career at KESQ in Palm Springs.
“I had the privilege of working with Bill at KMOV in St. Louis in 2007 when he was an executive producer,” said Sean McLaughlin, VP of news for Scripps TV. “He possesses a great sense of what drives local news viewing. Most recently as news director at WWL in New Orleans, Bill was able to modernize and motivate a powerhouse station. Under Bill’s leadership, WWL has returned to market dominance. He’s built a modern day multi-platform newsroom that focuses on quality enterprise journalism.”
