Cedar Rapids, Iowa reporter Forrest Saunders locked himself in a hot car to show the danger of being locked in a hot car.

His plan was to spend 45 minutes in the car in 80 degree weather.

At one point the inside temp of the car hit 124 degrees. Authorities pulled him out after 37 minutes when his body temperature hit 103 degrees. 104 degrees can kill.

ABC affiliate KCRG said since 1998 an average of 37 kids die in hot cars each year.

“It’s nothing to mess with,” said Cedar Rapids Fire Battalion Chief Jason Andrews. “It might seem like a minute or two to leave that child or that pet in that vehicle. That minute or two can literally lead to serious injury or death.”
