Rebecca Thomas, a reporter at Phoenix CBS affiliate KPHO, is leaving the station to return to California, where her mother is recovering from heart surgery.
As she explained in a Facebook post on Wednesday:
After our kidney transplant setback – due to her undergoing a quadruple bypass in March – the need to be close to my mother is even greater. Life is so precious and fragile — and, there is nothing more important than family.

Prior to joining KPHO, Thomas worked at rival Phoenix ABC afffiliate KNXV as an anchor/host/producer.
Her last day at KPHO is May 29.
