Raleigh Reporter Bryan Mims Leaving Station to Tell Stories About America

By Kevin Eck

WRAL reporter Bryan Mims is leaving the Raleigh-Durham NBC affiliate to eventually travel around America.

Mims told the News & Observer that he and his family are first moving to Atlanta to “be closer to family,” before he looks to get a remote job in public relations or marketing so he can work from the road.

Mims said his decision to leave had nothing to do with WRAL.

“WRAL has been a terrific place to work. I have nothing negative to say about WRAL,” said Mims. “I think it’s a terrific television station, it’s very community-oriented and this has nothing to do with my working environment at WRAL. It’s about my desire to try something different. I want to try this on-the-road adventure and if that doesn’t quite work out, then I’ll at least have something in Atlanta.”

Mims started working at WRAL in 2000. Before that, he worked at KPHO In Phoenix, at WSPA in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C. and at WLTX in Columbia, S.C.

The News & Observer called him an “accomplished documentary producer.” He said his goal is to eventually tell stories “about how Americans are indeed kind to one another, that we’re not as divisive as always portrayed in the media,” said Mims. “We’re hoping to tell some stories about the goodness of people.”
