Polo Sandoval is joining CNN Newsource as a national correspondent based in Washington, D.C. Sandoval comes from KRGV, the ABC affiliate in Welasco, Texas.
“Polo is a versatile and talented journalist, who gets to the crux of a story,” Paul Crum, the vice president of news operations, administration and affiliate services for CNN/U.S., said in a statement. “His range of enterprise reporting from the field will further enhance CNN Newsource.”
Since 2007, Sandoval has been the Hidalgo County Border bureau chief at KRGV. Before that, he worked as an intern at KTBC, the Fox owned station in Austin. More from CNN after the jump.
Polo Sandoval Joins CNN Newsource as National Correspondent
Polo Sandoval will join CNN Newsource as a national correspondent based in Washington, D.C., it was announced today by Paul Crum, vice president of news operations, administration and affiliate services for CNN/U.S.
Prior to joining CNN Newsource, Sandoval was the Bureau Chief for the Hidalgo County Border Bureau for KRGV-ABC in Texas. Last year, he covered the on-going breaking news at the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas. He has also reported from both the Democratic and Republican national conventions in 2008 and 2012. His experience with enterprise reporting from the Texas-Mexico border on topics ranging from immigration, homeland security, drug cartels and the resulting violence along the border, human trafficking, government benefits fraud, politics and human interest stories will complement CNN Newsource and its offerings for its more than 800 affiliates.

Sandoval has been recognized by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and the Lone Star Emmy chapter. He is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).
Sandoval earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media from Texas State University, with a minor in Spanish.
