OKC Anchor Says Breast Cancer Awareness Story Saved Her Life

KFOR‘s Ali Meyer went to get a mammogram for a story—only to find out she has breast cancer herself.

“I am 40 years old. I had no lumps, no concerns. I had a mammogram just to raise awareness and be a good example,” said the Oklahoma City, Okla. morning anchor. “I was shocked beyond belief when my results came back irregular.”

Meyer said doctors performed a biopsy in two places on her right side. They found cancer, but are optimistic about the outcome.

“This doesn’t feel like a terrible terminal diagnosis. It still feels terrible but I am empowered to do research and get the most information that I can.”

As Meyer comes up with a plan, the mother of four continues to work and do the morning news.
