Ohio Station Helps Cops Grab Man Who Cut Off His Ankle Monitor in Hardware Store

A WOIO crew helped police nab a man who cut off his ankle monitor and stashed it at an Ace Hardware store Tuesday morning.

Surveillance video shows the Ashtabula, Ohio man, who was recently released from prison, come into the store and stash his ankle monitor after cutting it off with hedge clippers. The station said he didn’t steal anything but he did grab a bag of free popcorn on his way out.

The Cleveland CBS affiliate’s crew had just finished up a story at the hardware store when news photographer Mike Brown noticed a guy who looked strangely familiar in the parking lot. U.S. Marshals identified the man as Aaron Brock and he said he was locked up for felonious assault.

Reporter Kelly Kennedy called U.S. Marshals and Ashtabula city police eventually caught Brock coming out of a McDonalds.

The U.S. Marshal’s office thanked the station for notifying them right away. They said Brock told them he was planning to turn himself in the next day.
