Oakland Anchor Off Air After Quick Exit Sunday

By Kevin Eck

KTVU anchor Frank Somerville has been off the air since he appeared to slur his words while anchoring the Fox owned station’s Sunday night newscast.

“I can confirm that Frank will not be on the air today,” Fox spokesperson Victoria Gurrieri told the Bay Area News Group yesterday. “We will keep you posted on his status.”

Somerville, one of the Bay Area’s longest running and most recognizable anchors, prompted concern among KTVU viewers during the station’s 10 p.m. newscast on Sunday when he seemed to be struggling to read off the Teleprompter, repeatedly stumbling over words. About 15 minutes into the broadcast, he was gone from his desk without explanation.

Co-anchor Julie Haener finished the newscast alone. KTVU provided no explanation regarding the incident, leaving viewers to speculate on social media about his condition.

He’s worked at the station since 1991.

TVSpy asked Fox for an update, but we haven’t heard back.
