As Shiba Russell joins WNBC as a weekend anchor and reporter, many are wondering if she is also joining the station as legendary anchor Sue Simmons’ heir apparent.
Russell dismissed this speculation in a recent interview with TVSpy sister site FishbowlNY, while also making it clear that she has big plans for her career.
“I am a big fan of Sue, and I have been for a really long time,” Russell told FishbowlNY. “She is a New York legend, a great journalist, [and] she paved the way for African-American female anchors like me.”
As Russell emphasizes that Simmons paved the way for her, she seemingly wouldn’t mind following in her footsteps.
“I would love for more opportunities to come down the road, but I think I need to prove myself first.” Read more at FishbowlNY
