Twenty-eight NBC-owned stations along with regional news network NECN will team up with 300 animal shelters across the U.S. to try to find homes for a whole lot of homeless animals on Saturday, August 15.
Eleven NBC-owned stations, 17 Telemundo-owned stations and NECN will air Clear The Shelters, which features “special shows and programming that will air on local stations before and after the pet adoption drive (check local listings).”
There will be a pet adoption drive (check local listings for times), local viewers will also see stories that will raise awareness about issues faced by animals in shelters. Participating shelters will either offer no-cost or reduced fee adoptions or they’ll waive pet spaying or neutering fees.
“Animals have always been an important part of my life. I know well the great contribution their love makes to a family,”said Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. “I’m proud that our stations are working with hundreds of local animal shelters to help save the lives of thousands of deserving animals across the country.”
The initiative is sponsored by Overstock.com.
The next week, Natalie Morales, from NBC’s Today Show, will host a 30-minute adoption drive show airing on both NBC-owned stations and over 100 affiliates, recapping the previous week’s action. Elva Saray will host the Telemundo version alongside Jessica Carrillo.
