Good Morning Mississippi won’t be the same in 2021.
WLOX anchor Rhonda Weidner, who has been the face of the Biloxi, Miss., station’s morning show since January 1989, is retiring at the end of the year.
“I’ve spent more than half my life at WLOX doing a job a I truly love, Weidner said. “How many people can say that these days? I consider myself blessed beyond measure. I am grateful to the wonderful people of South Mississippi for all of the love and support over the years and for welcoming me into their homes each day. It’s been a real honor and privilege.”
The journalist, who has spent more than 30 years at the station, estimates she has anchored nearly 7,500 newscasts during her time at WLOX. Good Morning Mississippi has changed a lot in her tenure at the station, beginning as a 45-minute program before expanding into two-and-a-half hours of programming.
“From where I sit, Rhonda Weidner is a vital piece to the WLOX puzzle,” said WLOX news director Brad Kessie. “The relationship she built with our viewers is special and unique. Over the next three months, WLOX will celebrate that relationship and Rhonda’s career.”
Weidner’s last day on the show is set for Dec. 11.
