Minnesota Sports Anchor Richard Denson Heads South to Memphis

By Kevin Eck

KAAL sports anchor Richard Denson is leaving the Rochester, Minn. ABC affiliate to move to Memphis, Tenn.

“To the ABC 6 News KAAL-TV Weekend Show. It all started there; I got to have so much fun no matter who was the anchor or weather person,” he wrote on social media along with the on-air announcement. “Many of the changes to the sportscasts began on the weekend show. It’s a show I will miss dearly as I move closer to the end.”

Denson joined the station in October 2021 and began working in the sports department in February 2022.

Bring Me the News said his departure is the latest at the Rochester station.

News anchor Laura Lee left the desk after 13 years in March, joining Northern News Now in Duluth, and fellow news anchor James Wilcox left the station on Sept. 8.

Both of the station’s leading meteorologists — Chris Kuball and Jim Peterson — announced they would be leaving viewers’ screens in May and September respectively. Kuball took a new job in Des Moines, Iowa while Peterson still works at the station but has stepped away from the camera.
