Mike Parker says he’s retiring from Chicago CBS-owned station WBBM.

“It’s been a fine, fun and exciting ride through the decades – but it’s time to get off the horse,” Parker told staffers in an email. “As of May 31st, I will be leaving and headed into retirement.”

He started as a weekend anchor and weekday reporter in 1980. In 1985, he went to WABC in New York and returned to WBBM in 1986.

“In our newsroom, Mike is considered the dean of reporters,” said Jeff Kiernan, vp and news director. “He has covered stories in every part of Chicago and its suburbs. We’ve relied on his thorough storytelling and have been captivated by his amazing voice. He will be missed.”

Parker started his career in radio at KFI in Los Angeles. His first on-air TV job was at KNXT (KCBS) in Los Angeles in 1977.
