Meteorologist Fired, Says It Was Because of Second Job

Meteorologist Karl Spring was let go Wednesday from KQDS-TV Channel 21.

Spring was head meteorologist for the Duluth Fox affiliate for about a year.

Spring, 49, said his departure was a cost-cutting decision and the result of him having a second job selling cars at a Duluth dealership.

“The new GM didn’t like that,” Spring said of general manager Jackie Bruenjes, who was hired in early August. “It was not OK with her, so they let me go.”

Spring said he was working full time as head weekday meteorologist and about 30 hours a week as a car salesman at North Star Ford to help support his four children. More…
