Mayoral Candidate Tells Toledo Station ‘God Sent Me’ Then Speaks in Tongues

Opal Covey is running for mayor of Toledo, Ohio for the fifth time.

Covey, who claims she is a prophetess, claims she won in 2013 but her votes were stolen. She told NBC affiliate WNWO about her vision for the city, if elected.

“God sent me to look upon Toledo,” said Covey. “I went through everything the citizens went through. Now, 38 years later I know the city up one side and down the other and I’m here to be mayor of Toledo.”

When asked if she had anything to add, Covey said “great destruction will come upon…” She then started speaking in tongues and closed by saying “Thank you, Jesus. That was a confirmation. If people don’t give me what I earned in 2013 back, and I’m not on that seat in November, then you’ll see God come and visiting the city in the greatest destruction you’ve ever seen.”
