Longtime Washington, D.C. Anchor Signs Off

By Kevin Eck

Morris Jones said goodbye to Washington, D.C. ABC affiliate WJLA and NewsChannel 8 on Tuesday.

The Washingtonian reports Jones says he declined the Sinclair-owned station’s offer of a contract extension and that he’s not retiring.

“I still think I’m still too young to retire,” Jones told the Washingtonian. “There are several things I want to do and even if I stay in media it’ll be new media–the days of appointment TV are just not there anymore.”

Jones worked at WTTG in Washington, D.C. for almost 20 years before joining Sinclair Broadcasting’s NewsCentral Project. He started working at NewsChannel 8 in 2010.
