After what the station says are more than 24,000 newscasts and 140 Nielsen ratings books, anchor Randy Shaw is retiring from Spokane, Wash., CBS affiliate KREM.
Shaw, who is the longest running news anchorman in Spokane broadcast history, has worked in TV for 33 years. He plans to leave at the end of September.
“It’s time to go,” said Shaw in a pretty nifty online presentation of his announcement. “The people of the Inland Northwest have been so good to me and so supportive over the years. I have a special place in my heart reserved for all the fine memories.”
He covered the end of the Richard Nixon administration and the presidencies of Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
Shaw became a network radio correspondent for the Associated Press and Mutual Broadcasting System anchoring national political conventions, presidential debates and traveling with the presidential candidates.
Overseas assignments that took him to parts of Asia, Africa and South America.
“I spent months and months on the road and decided to see if I could slow the pace a bit and return to my old hometown of Spokane, Washington,” Shaw explained.
“I salute the people of Spokane, Coeur d’ Alene and all the wonderful surrounding towns and communities of the Inland Northwest for taking the time to call or email their support and best wishes,” said Shaw. “I will surely miss you all!”
