WCVB has named a new political reporter. She’s a Massachusetts native and has been a reporter in New England for more than fifteen years.

Sharman Sacchetti will join the Boston, Mass. station as part of the Commitment 2020 coverage.

“We’re pleased to welcome Sharman to NewsCenter 5,” said Paige Harrison, WCVB news director. “She is a highly regarded journalist here in Boston whose experience covering government and politics will be an asset to our political coverage.”

She covered the 2012 and 2016 races for President, as well as numerous political conventions and New Hampshire primaries.

Sacchetti started as a writer at WHDH. She later moved to Elmira, N.Y. where she was an anchor at WETM and then a morning anchor at WTEN in Albany, N.Y. She returned to Boston in 2004 and spent the last fifteen years as political reporter, first at WFXT and later at WHDH.

“I am excited to join WCVB Channel 5, Boston’s news leader, a station well-known for its award-winning political coverage,” said Sacchetti. “It’s an honor to join the station that I grew up watching with my family every day.”

Sacchetti graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and a concentration in broadcast journalism. She lives in the Boston area with her husband, Scott.
