Longtime KXAS anchor Jane McGarry resigned from the Dallas NBC O&O today after pleading no contest to driving while intoxicated in May.

In a statement to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which was also posted on her Facebook page, McGarry said she was “deeply sorry for making such a terrible mistake.” KXAS said in a subsequent statement that McGarry had decided to resign from the station, effective today.

“We support Jane’s decision and truly thank her for her many contributions to NBC 5 throughout her long and distinguished career,” president-general manager Tom Ehlmann said. “We wish her the very best.”

McGarry joined KXAS in 1982 as a weekend anchor and has been with the station ever since.

“I want to thank the people of North Texas for inviting me into their homes for 30 wonderful years,” McGarry said in the KXAS statement. “In today’s world, 30 years is a long time to stay in any one job.”
