Yesterday, reporter and evening anchor David James announced he’s retiring from TV news. James has worked at WFIE in Evansville, Ind., for 41 years. He joined the NBC affiliate in December of 1973 after working for the Evansville Courier and Press and WGBF radio.

James announced the news on his Facebook page on Tuesday, writing:

It’s been an emotional journey reporting both the triumphs and tragedies in my hometown. Few broadcasters have been able to stay put in one place for such a long time. I want to thank the viewers for their trust and support over the years. It’s always been my goal to be a responsible journalist and not to judge, but present the facts and all sides of a story. I look forward to new challenges and opportunities.

This is the second longtime anchor to leave WFIE this year. We wrote about James’ former co-anchor, Ann Komis, who retired in July after 29 years at the station.

James’ last day is January 9.
