LIN Reaches Retrans Deal with Cox, Averting Blackout

By Andrew Gauthier

LIN Media and Cox Communications reached a new retrans agreement on Wednesday, avoiding a blackout of LIN stations in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, and Alabama.

The previous retrans deal was set to expire at midnight on Wednesday.

“We are pleased to inform you that we have reached a contract with Cox,” LIN announced in a statement posted on the websites of stations affected by the negotiations.  “We appreciate your tremendous support throughout these negotiations.”

The deal covers nine stations: WPRI and WNAC in Providence; WWLP in Springfield, MA; WTNH and WCTX in Hartford-New Haven; WAVY and WVBT in Hampton Roads, VA; and WALA and WFNA in Mobile.
