KTVT Petitions FCC for New Signal Citing Post-Transition Ratings Drop

KTVT’s slogan is “Coverage that you can count on” and for many viewers in the Dallas area that credo has lately proven to be inaccurate. Since the June 12th transition from analog to digital, KTVT-Channel 11 has experienced difficulty in effectively transmitting a digital signal and now the station is petitioning the FCC in an effort to obtain a new frequency.

According to the petition, which was filed on July 16th, there are a large number of over-the-air viewers who are unable to receive a decent signal from KTVT. The solution, according to KTVT, would be to use channel 19 to reach those who are using converter boxes to receive service.

Using Nielsen Media Research figures, CBS11’s petition says the station’s over-the-air prime-time (7 to 10 p.m.) ratings dropped 57 percent from the pre-digital week of June 1st to the post-digital week of June 22nd. But among viewers with digital-friendly cable, the dropoff was just 1.9 percent, CBS11 says. More…
