KTRK Reporter Helps Man to Safety After Getting Caught in High Water

By Kevin Eck

KTRK reporter Steve Campion was at the right place at the right time for one Houston man caught up in the flash flooding that struck the area.

The Houston ABC owned station reports just before Campion was to go live he saw a guy float down the street in his car after trying to drive through flood waters.

“Dude, you’ve got to get out of the car. You’ve got to get out!” Campion yelled at the man. “Leave the car, swim!” Campion then waded out to help the man to safety.

Campion [later] asked, “Did you not just think the water was that deep?”

The man said, “I did not think it was that deep.”

The man, who later identified himself as Andy, tried to turn back to the vehicle, but Campion said, “You’ve got to leave the car.”

Moments later, the car slipped below the water’s surface.
