KSAT Apologizes for Reporting One Rapper’s Arrest, Showing Picture of Another

By Kevin Eck

San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT sent out a tweet about rapper Young Jeezy getting arrested after a shooting at a Wiz Khalifa concert. Trouble is, the station sent out a picture of rapper Birdman instead.

The San Antonio Express-News caught the mistake.

The station put up a statement on its website saying a “third party graphics provider” had a picture in its library that identified Birdman as Young Jeezy. A producer at the station used the photo by mistake. The station said it told the graphics company about the problem and apologized to viewers.

Here’s the KSAT statement:

Last night, KSAT12 News sent out a tweet about the arrest of a man in connection with a shooting over the weekend that occurred in Northern California.

The suspect in that shooting was identified as rapper “Young Jeezy.”

Utilizing a third party online graphics provider, a producer in our newsroom found a picture that was identified in that graphics library as Young Jeezy. She tweeted out that picture, along with the online story.

Late today, we were informed that the picture associated with that tweet was not Young Jeezy, but was in fact another rapper, known by his stage name as “Birdman.”

We have removed the story and the picture from our website, and we have alerted the third party online graphics provider that we believe the picture we obtained from them is incorrectly identified.

We regret and apologize for this incident.
