KRIS, the NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, has hired Paul Alexander as news director and Mike Gillaspia (pictured) as morning co-anchor.

“Both will be great additions to our staff,” KRIS general manager Greg McAlister told TVSpy in an email.

Alexander joins KRIS from KVEO, the NBC affiliate in Brownsville, Texas. KRIS has been without a permanent news director since Sandra Richards was let go last year. Alexander will officially begin at KRIS in August. Gillaspia, who begins in July, comes from KWES in Midland, Texas, where he is the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor. He replaces Dave Froehlich, who is joining KTBC in Austin, as morning co-anchor.

McAlister told TVSpy KRIS has also hired Alan Harwell, a former sportscaster at rival KIII who was let go several years ago due to budget cuts. In his break from television, Harwell has been coaching at two local high schools.

“His relationships with High School coaches and knowledge of the market will help take our Friday Night Football coverage to a new level,” McAlister said.
