KOB’s Tom Joles Calls It a Career

By Chris Ariens

After 29 years at Albuquerque’s KOB, anchor Tom Joles is retiring from TV news.

“While it saddens me greatly to leave our newsroom, New Mexico and you, it’s time,” a tearful Joles said. “It’s time to let someone a little younger sit in this anchor chair, and it’s time for me to attack life from a different angle.

The Midwest native is doing a reverse retirement, leaving the desert Southwest for chilly Wisconsin (although it’s lovely in summer.)

Joles’ last day at the Hubbard-owned NBC affiliate is June 7. “I hope over the next three weeks, you’ll be there watching the news as I make my way down the final stretch,” Joles said.
