Metro Detroit is losing its weather chief. After 45 years in the business, Jerry Hodak, the beloved chief meteorologist for WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) is retiring. His last day is Thursday.
“People on the street call me chief,” says Hodak, who traces the term of endearment back to his colleague and friend, anchorwoman Diana Lewis. “Chief meteorologist is such a mouthful. She just shortened it and it caught on. Now people love calling me that.”
