KGO Photog Injured When News Van Swept Away by Mudslide

A KGO news photographer is lucky to be alive after the van he was driving was swept away in a mudslide in the Santa Cruz mountains.

The Bay Area has been drenched by heavy rainstorms, softening up hillsides and making them dangerous for homeowners and drivers.

“One of our photographers was driving this morning when the news van was hit by a mudslide on Highway 17 near Scotts Valley,” KGO wrote on its Facebook page. “Our photographer suffered minor injuries and we’re wishing him a speedy recovery!”

“Miracles happen every day. Fortunately, the slide didn’t come down and completely cover the van,” said CHP Officer Jeff Lutz.
